Abbreviations for
Regions, Chapters, and Sources
in Extraneus

Capitalized abbreviations refer to:

  1. geographic regions
  2. chapters in Extraneus
  3. sources described in the bibliography.

Geographic regions may be counties, or shires, administrative regions, departments, provinces, states, and sovereign nations. Regions that existed before 1974 are in CAPITALS without italics, whereas regions newly created after 1974 are in miniscule letters with italics. Brackets [ ] enclose county names made obsolete by the 1974 reorganization.

Chapter titles have been uniformly abbreviated in capitals and limited to four letters.

Sources commonly cited have been assigned abbreviations based on the initials of the authors.
